Thirty-three and 28. Those were the numbers Bryan Lion top scorers Brittany Swanson and Versell Wells respectively posted against the Montreat College Cavaliers Saturday night at McAliset Gymnasium in Montreat (N.C.).

While Swanson’s effort led the Lady Lions (18-5, 11-1) to an 83-77 conference win and their third straight victory, Wells and the Bryan men (3-19, 2-10) suffered an 84-74 loss.

The Lady Cavaliers (2-21, 2-10) came dangerously close to upsetting the Lady Lions, rebounding from a 39-29 first half to outscore their guests 48-44 in the second.

Bryan’s accurate shooting threw off the attack, as the Lady Lions tallied 48 percent from the field (24-of-50), 60 percent from outside the arc (9-of-15) and 84 percent at the free throw line (26-of-31).

Sarah Coffman grabbed eight rebounds and sank 18 points for the Lady Lions, followed by Katie Davis with 15 points and Kellie Thurman with 12.

Though underdogs, the Bryan men outscored the 12-11 (9-3) Cavaliers 45-35 in the first half of their Saturday night matchup. Montreat, however, returned to the court ready to play, bursting any upset hopes with a 49-29 second half.

The Lions will host Milligan College this Saturday with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 and 7:30 pm.
