Musical Merit Scholarship Information

Auditions for $8000 Musical Merit Scholarship

Eligibility

These auditions are designed for accomplished musicians who are planning to major in music at Bryan College. The areas of performance are vocal, piano, organ, standard band/orchestral instruments, and classical guitar. To be invited to audition weekend, a student must complete a Bryan College application and be accepted by January 15. This can be begun on-line. Other than the standard admissions requirements, there are no special requirements for GPA or standardized test scores.

Award

One winner of the Musical Merit Scholarship Audition will receive a $8000 music scholarship plus additional scholarships (academic, etc.). This will be renewable yearly as long as the recipient is pursuing a music major. Various smaller music scholarships will also be awarded to those who do not receive first place.

Audition

Students should prepare a 15-minute audition consisting of at least three selections of a contrasting nature (historic periods; genres for vocalists such as oratorio, musical theatre, art song; etc.). Selections need not be memorized, but memorization is usually more impressive. A professional accompanist will be provided if needed; pre-recorded accompaniments may also be used. The audition will be held on the stage of Rudd Auditorium on the Bryan College campus during the Scholarship Weekends..

To schedule an audition time, please e-mail  Jody Cheon in admissions.  If you have any questions about the Scholarship Audition, please email Music Department Chair, Dr. Mel R. Wilhoit.
