Dayton, TN—After defeating the Preachers in game 1 of a doubleheader 16-0, the Lions took the field against Johnson Bible College again in the second game of the twin bill and picked up right where they left off. Lions’ sophomore Ben Young started the game on the mound and was perfect through three innings, matching teammate Daniel Zimmerman’s game one effort.

                The Lions went down quietly in the bottom of the first, but after Young hung a second zero on the scoreboard in the top of the second, Bryan exploded for 7 runs in the bottom half of the inning. Again it was Lions’ Junior, Matt Hicks leading the way with a two-run triple to center field to spark the Lions. For the second game in a row, it was the youngest group of Lions who stole the show. Freshman Steven Kilgore hit a towering three-run homerun deep over the left field wall to push the Lions lead to 11. Kilgore was one of seven freshmen to notch their first hit in a Bryan uniform on Saturday.

                The Preachers fought back and did some scoring of their own in the 4^th and 5^th innings to cut the lead to 6 at 11-5, but Lions Senior captain Brad Starnes hit a three-run blast to deep left center to extend the lead to 9.  Bryan freshman Paul Shearer hit a single back through the box in the bottom half of the 6^th inning for the walk off victory via the mercy rule, 15-5.

                Other Notables: Starnes’ three run homerun in the game was the 10th of his career. Keep an eye on Starnes, the Lions top power threat, as he chases the single season and career records for Home Runs, Doubles and RBIs this season.  The Lions scored 31 runs on the day, while only allowing 5 runs for JBC.
