Out With The Old, In With The New
Out With the Old...If you clean out old files, your office, etc. please think of the college archives if you have anything of significance (major or minor) relating to the history of Bryan College before getting rid of anything. Our College Archivist, Stephanie Wood, can tell you if your documents, items of memorabilia, etc., would make a good addition to the College Archives. Thanks in advance for checking with us!
In With The New...In May, the library switched its integrated library system (ILS) to a new provider, so we have a new look for--and functionality in--our online catalog. For those of you who would enjoy learning about the catalog at your own pace, we have a brief online tutorial and a "How to Use the Library Catalog" reference sheet.
The biggest change of note is that we now share a system with other ACA libraries, which means that:
a. Although your initial search will only include our holdings, subsequent searches may show other libraries' records.
b. Clicking on the "home" button sends you to a list of participating libraries. Simply select "Bryan College" to narrow the search results to just our holdings.
c. The "View your Patron Record" login screen will prompt you for your name/ username and barcode/ password. This is your eFaculty or e-mail login information. Please see the lower half of page 2 of "How to Use the Library Catalog" for login instructions. You will also use this login method for accessing our third-party databases, such as Films on Demand and our eBooks databases, through our catalog from off-campus.
As ever, please contact us if you have any questions or would like personalized instruction in the new system.
From the Director
Some wise person once said that after it’s all said and done, there is often more said than done. The BCL staff has had a busy summer of doing, so if I keep my comments brief, I won’t make us guilty of that indictment. To use another familiar saying, “the more things change, the more they stay the same.” There have been a lot of changes with the library implementing the new shared catalog, new hours, etc. But the one thing that hasn’t changed is our commitment to serve you with the best service we can muster. Please drop us an email, call us, or come by if we can present research strategies to your class, request a resource for you from another library, place something on reserve for one of your classes, or provide any of the many other services that we have been offering to you. If you have an idea for a new service I would also like to hear that. The bottom line is: communicate with us on how we can help you, and we’ll do our best. Have a great year!
