Bryan to celebrate Arbor Day
April 19, 2012
Bryan College will celebrate its first Arbor Day Friday, April 27, 2 p.m., with a tree planting on Landes Way, the new entrance to the college.
Dr. Roger Sanders, associate professor of science, said the celebration is designed to raise awareness about Arbor Day and to introduce the community to the Bryan Arboretum.
Representatives of area garden clubs, the county extension agent, area forester, and local officials have been invited to participate in the celebration, which will include planting a serviceberry tree.
In July 2011 the arboretum was recognized as a Level I arboretum by the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council and the state Department of Agriculture’s Division of Forestry.
Dr. Sanders said the celebration will allow the college to apply for recognition as a Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day Foundation, and will be another invitation for the community to visit the arboretum.
