Auditions will be held for the Bryan College Community
Youth and Children's choirs on August 29.
Area students in grades 4-12 are invited to audition for the Bryan College Community Children’s Choir (grades 4-8) or Youth Choir (grades 9-12) for the coming year.  The auditions will take place Thursday, August 29, at 4 p.m. in the chorale room of Rudd Auditorium.  Students selected through the audition process will practice weekly and perform at a number of events throughout the 2013-2014 academic year.

New directors are Jane Barnett for the Children's Choir and Randy Bright for the Youth Choir. As the former director for the Bryan College Community Music School, Barnett has taught piano at all levels for more than 30 years; was a member of the Chattanooga Choral Arts; has directed many choirs; and has always been involved in choral music, either as a singer, director, or accompanist. Bright will graduate December 2013 with a degree in Vocal Music Education. He teaches voice lessons and has performed in several major works on campus, including Street Scene, Cosi fan tutte, and Cinderella.

The Children’s Choir will rehearse on Mondays from 4:15 to 5 p.m.  Choir members work on sight reading skills, vocal production, blend, and balance as they learn and memorize music for concerts.  Their repertoire includes classical, spiritual, and traditional sacred music.

The Youth Choir will learn music in a variety of styles, developing musicianship in the context of ensemble performance. They will rehearse Wednesdays from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Both choirs have a $25 per semester fee, and the Youth Choir has a one-time uniform fee.  Practices will be held in the chorale suite, room 109, on the lower level of Rudd Auditorium.
