Women's Volleyball Controls Reinhardt in 4
The Women's Volleyball team posted their second victory of the week at Reinhardt College on Wednesday night. The Lions took control early and won in 4 (30-22, 30-28, 21-30, 30-26).
The Lions took control early in game 1, behind 11 combined kills between Kim Barlow and Abby Humphrey. In game 2, the Lions maintained their lead, but lost a little of their focus, allowing the host school to draw even at 28 before dispatching them with 2 quick points.
Game three was a letdown for the Lions. Bryan fell behind early 8-3, and played catch-up the entire game. Towards the end of the game, the team began to settle down and played even with Reinhardt, though losing the game 30-21. A short run at the end of the game helped Bryan re-focus and build momentum going into game 4, and the team held a slim two-point lead most of the game. Reinhardt fought valiantly, closing the gap at 26. Not to be outdone, the Lions scored 4 points on an ace from Kaylin Carswell, a kill from Abby Humphrey, and a kill from Laura Dickey to put away the match.
"It was nice to see us get ahead in a match," commented Coach Sayles. "In other matches, we have given up either the first or second game, then would fall behind in the third, which would force us to play with our backs against the wall. I am starting to see a sense of urgency in the eyes of the players early. Now we must return to conference matches and play with that same sense of urgency."
Kim Barlow followed up her career-high with another solid match, notching 23 kills, 2 solo blocks, and 5 assisted blocks. Abby Humphrey finished with a her seventh double-double, posting 17 kills and 14 digs. Kathryn Rawley posted 37 assists, and Libero Christine Pratt dug up 17 digs. Freshman Kaylin Carswell finished with 14 digs to go along with 7 kills and 4 service aces.
The Lions (2-5, 6-11) travel to Virginia this weekend for matches at UVA-Wise and Bluefield College.
