Bryan earns another W in 3rd conference game

The Bryan College men's soccer team improved their record to 7-1-2 (2-0-1 Appalachian Athletic Conference) with a hard-fought win against Bluefield on Saturday night.

The Lions had a solid first half and kept Bluefield under pressure which resulted in some of the best attacking soccer the Lions have played this year.

The Lions scored four goals in the first half and maintained the lead until the final whistle.  The scoring opened up in the 5th minute as Scotty Davidson scored off of an assist by Manoel Silva.  Bluefield answered quickly with a goal of their own.  Their goal was immediately followed by another goal by Scotty Davidson, assisted by defender James Carmichael (future Celtic Football Club star).  This goal perhaps is the early frontrunner for "Goal of the Year" honors as it was a well-executed bicycle kick.  The third goal came in the 13th minute as Manoel Silva placed a shot in the left corner past the outstretched arms of the keeper after an assist by "The Pride of Mexico," Andres Garcia.  The final goal came with under 2 minutes to play in the half as Gabe Fisher tucked away a shot inside the box, assisted by Felipe Vallejo.

Bryan 's defense, which has only allowed 4 goals in 10 games this season, had another stellar outing with freshmen Curt Hays and Luke Schaeffer stepping into the backline and playing well.  James Carmichael and Kyle Wagley provided consistent leadership with Kevin Keeley solid in net once again.

Up next for the Lions is nationally ranked Virginia Intermont at home on Tuesday, Oct. 3rd.  Bryan is currently ranked 2nd in the conference with VI ranked 3rd.
