Lions Open Outdoor Season With Two NAIA Qualifying Marks
March 30, 2008Tuscaloosa, AL - The Bryan College track and field team opened it's 2008 outdoor season at the Alabama Relays at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Complex.
Freshmen Zach Mobley (Ooltewah, TN) and Sophomore Josh Bradley (Ringgold, GA) finished 3rd and 5th with times of 1:52.47 and 1:52.85 in the 800 meter run. The race was won by Southern Mississippi senior Cornelius Duncan. Both athletes qualified for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships set for May 22-24 in St. Louis, Missouri.
"It's their first race in three weeks, so I was pleased with the performance. They opened up faster this weekend than we did last year at this time so that's a big positive." Said coach Rodney Stoker.
Freshmen athletes Colby Smith and Hunter Hall competed as well in the 800 meter run and 3k steeplechase. Smith set an outdoor best of 2:05.64, while Hall competed in his first steeple and finished in 10:26.97.
The Lions will travel to Sewanee, Tennessee on Saturday, April 5th to compete in the Mountain Laurel Invitational hosted by the University of the South.
