Bradley sets school record with win at Smoky Mountain Twilight
May 07, 2008Knoxville, Tenn. - Bryan College sophomore Josh Bradley (Ringgold, Ga.) set a school record of 1:50.34 for the 800 meter run on his way to victory at the Smoky Mountain Twilight. The event was hosted by UTK on Tom Black Track. Teammate and freshman Zach Mobley (Ooltewah, Tenn.) finished a close second in 1:51.22. Freshman Colby Smith (Dayton, Tenn.) set a personal best running his first sub-two-minute 800 meters with a sixth-place finish in 1:58.27. Bradley and Mobley now own the top two times in the NAIA.
Sophomore Daniel Goetz qualified for the NAIA National Championship in the 3000 meter steeplechase by finishing second in 9:36.87. Bradley, Mobley, and Goetz will be joined by teammates Andrew Dorn and Guillermo Loaiza at the NAIA Championship in St. Louis, Missouri on May 22 - 24. Dorn and Loaiza will compete in the marathon.
"We finally got some decent weather and a fast track. I knew Josh was ready for a performance jump and he took advantage of the opportunity," Coach Rodney Stoker said. "Mobley was just off his personal best and they are looking good at the right time of the year. They went with the quick early pace and had enough to get around two talented UT athletes.
"Colby has come a long way in a short time and I can't wait to see what his future will bring," continued Stoker. "Goetz is tough. He has run about 15 times in the last eight weeks and somehow found a way to qualify for St. Louis. I told him this is a different type of challenge and he went with it. His experience paid off and I'm happy for him."
