Rachel and the Coaches

Rachel Meek, a standout three-sport athlete from Lawrence County High School in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., recently committed to play volleyball and basketball for the Bryan College Lady Lions.

Rachel has been a highly sought-after basketball player, but admits her first love is volleyball. After turning away from basketball-only offers, Meek is looking forward to the opportunity to play both of the sports she loves.

Bryan volleyball Coach Leo Sayles said, "I am just thrilled. Rachel is one of those athletes you only find once in a long while. Her volleyball program was not the strongest, so she passed under the radar of many volleyball coaches. I believe many will be astonished at what she can do on the floor."

Meek, a 5'10" outside hitter at LCHS, will play the outside hitter position for Bryan. "Rachel has great size and strength. What will separate her from the rest is her tremendous swing speed and outstanding jumping ability. She is a dedicated athlete, and a very coachable player."

Coach Sayles and Coach Matt Bollant, the women's basketball coach, will coordinate a workout schedule specific for Rachel's needs. "Our goal is to do what is best for her. We are not going to 'double-dip' for the sake of our own programs. We desire to see Rachel excel in both sports. When volleyball is in season, she will be with the volleyball team. When basketball is in season, she will be with Coach Bollant. During the off-season, we will work together to give her rest and prepare her for her next season."
