Brittany Swanson, a 6’ 1” junior center from Tellico Plains, Tenn., has been named a First Team NAIA All American, the first Lady Lion basketball player so honored.
Brittany, who led the Lady Lions to a 26-8 overall record, their first regular season conference title and third consecutive appearance in the NAIA Division II national tournament, was the only player from the Appalachian Athletic Conference named First Team All American.
Coach Matt Bollant said, “Brittany had an outstanding junior year. She is very deserving of her award, as she did so many things to help our team win. Brittany took a huge step defensively for us this year, helping our team hold opponents under 60 points per game, a school record.
“The biggest thing Brittany did was make big shots and big free throws when the game was on the line. I think she shot over 90 percent from the free throw line in the last two minutes of the game.”
In 32 games this year, Brittany scored 578 points, averaging 18.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocked shots per game. She shot 39.1 percent from the floor, 35.9 percent from the three-point range and 78.1 percent from the foul line.
Earlier, Brittany was chosen AAC Player of the Year and the National Christian College Athletic Association’s Mid-East Region Player of the Year.
