Bryan Volleyball suffers loss to rival Union College

After a great preseason, the Bryan College Volleyball team opened with a disappointing loss to rival Union College in Kentucky on Sept. 4.

The Lions scored solid wins in games 1 and 2, and were on the verge of putting the match away when a scorebook discrepancy resulted in a penalty assessed to the Lions, taking serve from the Lions and awarding a penalty point to Union. Union pulled out a victory in the disputed game, and took momentum from the match. Bryan lost in five.

According to Coach Sayles, the Lions did not capitalize on their opportunities in game three, opening the door for Union after the disputed call. "This game is a wake-up call for us not to allow teams to hang around in matches that we can put away."

The leftover bitterness from this loss will fuel the Lions as they prepare for their first weekend homestand Sept. 10-11. The Lions will host Virginia Intermont College on Friday, then host defending conference champions King College, and close with a match versus Milligan College. If the team stays healthy and focused, it will be an exciting weekend at Bryan.

Pray for God to bless the team with health, that they can put forth a solid effort on the court this weekend!
