Henning Museum sponsors art show
March 14, 2011
Bryan’s Henning Museum of Natural History will sponsor its first Nature Art Contest beginning the week of March 21, Dr. Todd Wood has announced.
Dr. Wood, director of the Center for Origins Research, said Bryan students may submit up to three pieces of art – photography, painting, drawing, collage, or the like – for the show by March 18. Each entry must depict a natural subject, with only minimal depiction of humans. The show will continue through April 29.
“We want the museum to be a place of service to the Bryan community, not just ‘that closet where we keep all those dead things.’” Dr. Wood said. “We want to use the art show to draw students into the museum.”
During the week of March 21, a panel of judges will select first-, second-, and third-place winners, and visitors before March 24 may vote on their favorite piece for the People’s Choice award. All winners will be announced at a reception March 24 at 7 p.m. Winners will receive gift certificates to the Bryan bookstore, Dr. Wood said.
