Renfroe, Rawley and Green attain national honors

Bryan College's Robin Renfroe was recognized as an  Honorable Mention selection for the 2006 NAIA women's Volleyball All-America teams, announced Monday.

Robin led the Lions to their best Appalachian Athletic Conference finish in 4 years as they wrapped up the regular season with a 2nd place finish. The Lions finished with their best overall record (27-12) since the mid-1980's when the Lions advanced to the NCCAA national tournament.  Robin was ranked second in the AAC in blocks, finishing with 178 total blocks, a 1.23 average per game.  She was also ranked fourth in kill percentage, finishing with 425 kills, a .308 percentage. She is the first player in Bryan history to finish with such a high honor in the NAIA.

She was a First Team selection on the AAC and Region XII teams, and was voted to the All-Region team in the NCCAA Mid-East region.  She was joined on the NCCAA Mid-East Region team by senior OH Abby Humphrey, junior Libero Kathryn Rawley, and freshman MB Amber Smith.

Rawley, a junior from Staunton, VA, was also named an NAIA-Daktronics All-America Scholar-Athlete, along with fellow junior DS Kristin Green of Westminster, MD.  The NAIA honors juniors and seniors who compete at the varsity level and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.

"This is one of the greatest ways we can show a player how big their accomplishments are," commented Bryan's Coach Leo Sayles.  "I am proud of all our players, and am especially pleased that Robin was recognized as an Honorable Mention player.  She had perhaps the greatest run of big games in the past several years of the Lions program, and still has two years ahead of her.  I am also pleased to see Kathryn and Kristin honored for their hard work in the classroom.  It is tough to compete at this level and maintain such high standards in the classroom, and these two are doing a tremendous job!"
