Lions to challenge UTC in scrimmage
Coach Sayles and the Lady Lions will travel to Chattanooga to compete in a tri-match at the University of Tennessee in late March. The opportunity to compete against an NCAA Div. 1 team came about almost by default: The Lions had to back out of two tournaments due to scheduling conflicts and were left with no scrimmages. Coach Sayles, who knows UTC Associate Head Coach James Onikeku, was able to join UTC's scheduled scrimmage against Gadsden State, a prominent community college program from Alabama.
'I think this will be a great opportunity for us to develop our program this spring. UTC is a fine mid-level volleyball program, and will give us quite a challenge." commented Coach Sayles. "As we continue to improve our play, however, we must learn to play at a higher competitive level, and a spring scrimmage is the perfect setting. The girls are looking forward to working together competitively, and meeting the UTC players."
The Lions will scrimmage UTC Wednesday, March 28 at 3:00 p.m., then will take the court against Gadsden State at 5:00 p.m.
