Azusa,Calif.-NAIA #5 Azusa Pacific University held off a strong effort by the Bryan Lady Lions volleyball team Wednesday night to pull off a 3 game (30-28, 30-20, 30-26) victory over the visitors from Dayton, TN. The Lions, led by Gabrielle Claxton (10 kills, .350 pct, 3 total blocks) and Robin Renfroe (7 kills, 4 total blocks), put up a good block throughout the night, totaling 11 team blocks. Despite the strong effort, the Lions were not able to pull out the win. “The team played well, but a few costly errors kept us from putting any game away,” commented Bryan’s coach Sayles. “APU is a big hitting team, but our girls proved up for the challenge defensively. We misfired some in serve-receive, giving up 10 reception errors, but good teams will reveal those weaknesses. Hopefully, the ladies will come out and battle for a victory on Friday.”
The Lions, now 16-8 overall, will return to action Friday night against their final GSAC opponent, Hope International University, a 3-1 loser to APU on Tuesday night.
