Bryan looks forward to King on Saturday

October 12th, 2006

The Bryan Lions still maintain a top position in the AAC Conference although they have dropped two non-conference games in a week. On Homecoming weekend the Lions lost to William Carey University. The Lions did not seem to have an answer for the attacking play of Carey and it was a dissappointing outing for the squad.

On Wednesday, the injury-plagued Lions traveled to the University of the Cumberlands for a non-conference match. Nationally ranked U of C (#24 NAIA) proved to be too much for the Lions, who came into the match with 5 starters missing from the line-up.

The Lions, behind stellar goalkeeping from sophomore Carlos Sanchez, kept the score close, surrendering a goal in the first half in the 31st minute. Bryan's best opportunity came early in the second half as a free kick deep in the opponent's area was driven to the back post where freshman Josh Maubach was there to head it wide of the post. Under considerable pressure from U of C, Bryan surrendered a second goal in the 60th minute.

The score would stay at 2-0, sending the Lions home to prepare for a major AAC conference match-up this Saturday as Bryan faces off against King in a game that will have a huge impact within the conference.

The Lions have a record of 8-3-2 ( 3-0-1 ) as they enter Saturday's game. The outlook is very positive as several key players will return from injury and the Lions have been tough to beat at home this year with a record of 6 wins and 1 loss.
