Bryan improves to 5-0 with win over Asbury

Bryan 2 - Asbury 1

Bryan College Men's Socccer posted another win tonight, against Asbury College, pushing their win streak to five games. In a game that proved to be quite unpredictable, the Lions were able to secure a victory in its third game in four days. Bryan defeated Toccoa Falls 11-0 on Friday night and Freed- Hardeman University 10-0 on Saturday, with both games played in front of the Lion faithful. The Lions were able to apply pressure early to Asbury's defenders which created some early scoring opportunities for the Lions. Sophomore Curt Hays consistently created dangerous situations on the right side going forward and it finally paid off midway through the half as his cross eventually fell at the feet of Andres Garcia. Garcia fired a low, driven strike into the left hand corner, opening the scoring for the Lions.

The Lions continued to create opportunities as Mano Silva's header inside the six was parried away by keeper Cory Brown and shortly after, Jota da Silva released a bending shot from 25 yards out that had Brown beaten but struck the crossbar. Halftime score was 1 - 0 in favor of the Lions. Ten minutes into the second half, Jota da Silva played Brazilian Santa Claus again as he served a beautiful cross to a Scott Davidson whose header found the back of the net, past the outstretched fingers of a diving Cory Brown.
The first 15 minutes of the second half held many chances for the Lions, of which only Davidson's header capitalized. Credit must be given to Brown who came up with some quality saves allowing Asbury to hang around. The game settled in to a rather lackluster affair for the remainder of the evening with few chances created by either team. An own goal provided Asbury with their only goal late in the game and that is the way the score stood after ninety minutes ; Bryan College 2 - Asbury 1.

Bryan outshot their opponent 13-3 in this contest. Credit must go to Bryan's defensive unit of Wagley, McCown, O'Kane, Kloc and Sanchez, along with solid support from supporting players, as they have yet to surrender a goal created by an opponent through five games this year. Asbury proved to be a hard-working team that provided a good test for the Lions as they head south this weekend to play back-to-back at William Carey University and the Univeristy of Mobile. Bryan's record now stands undefeated at 5-0 ( 0-0 AAC Conference ).
