Lions Find Success at Indiana Relays
February 03, 2008Bloomington, IN - The Lions traveled to Indiana University for the Indiana Relays over the weekend and earned three top five finishes. The trip to the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse paid off as the track squad secured four automatic national qualifying times, to go along with three school records.
Friday afternoon saw sophomore Daniel Goetz hit the B-standard for the men's mile, as he finished 6th with a time of 4:20.58. Freshmen Bryson Harper ran to a new career best of 4:25.22 to finish 7th in his section of the mile.
Zach Mobley was fifth in the men's 800 meter invitational race when he ran a new school record of 1:53.20.
Drew Nunnelly competed in the men's long jump and 400 meter dash and came away with marks of 6.06 meters and 52.55.
The men's distance medley relay team finished second to Indiana State late Friday evening when Harper, Nunnelly, Mobley and Goetz doubled back to set a new school best of 10:24.89.
Sophomore Josh Bradley set a new personal best in the indoor 800 meter run when he ran 1:54.29, an auto mark, to finish third in the men's final on Saturday. He qualified for the final by running 1:56.11 Friday evening.
Freshmen athletes Colby Smith and Hunter Hall also set career bests over the weekend. Smith ran 2:05.81 in men's 800, while Hall ran 9:36.01 in the 3k run.
"It's always a good weekend when each athlete competing sets a career best. The experience from the weekend should carry over well into the weeks ahead." Said coach Rodney Stoker.
Next for the Lions will be the Tiger Indoor Invitational hosted by Sewanee University on Saturday, February 9th.
