Harpeth High Teammates sign with Bryan

April 20, 2007
The Bryan College Men’s Basketball team has signed two players from Harpeth High School near Nashville, TN.

Scott Newton, a 6’5” 3 or 4 man, averaged 15 ppg and 8 rpg while shooting 62% from the field and 47% from the 3-point line. Scott was also named MVP of his district while being named All-District and All-Region as well.

His high school coach, Jamie Wilson, said, “Scott is a warrior with great leadership skills. He is a very versatile player offensively as he can shoot from the perimeter, post up and take it to the basket. He can also defend any position player on the court."

Coach Rekoske goes on to say, “We feel Scott is one of the best players from Tennessee we have recruited this year. We feel he can make an immediate impact next year.”

Bryan also signed teammate Chase Baker, a 6’4” post who averaged 9 ppg and 6 rpg this past year. He was named All-District and All-Region this year.

Coach Wilson said, “Chase has great post moves and footwork. He is a hard worker who will push everyone in front of him. He is one of the most athletic kids on our team.”

Coach Rekoske said, “The more I saw Chase the more I was impressed with him. He really came on at the end of the year after getting past some early injuries. He has a chance to help us next year.

Harpeth finished 29-8 this year while winning the district regular season and tournament championships. They were a semi-final team in the region.
