Bryan Basketball kicks off season with visit to prison and elementary school

October 01, 2007

The Bryan College men's basketball team spent Saturday, September 29 in a prison and at an elementary school, the season kicks off with midnight madness on Monday, October 1.

Bryan played against the Silverdale prison Saturday morning and won 70-45. Cody Christopher had 18 points and 6 rebounds, Charlie Lytle had 8 points, 3 boards and 4 blocks, Scott Newton had 8 points, Matt Housley had 8 points, Damond Craig had 8 points and 5 assists, Derek Batt had 6 points. The primary purpose for why the team went was to share the gospel with the inmates. It was an encouragement to the entire team and coaching staff to use basketball as a ministry in such an environment. A couple of the team members prayed with one of the inmates afterwards as he was asking for strength as he is being released on Tuesday from prison.

During the late afternoon and evening the team went to Frazier Elementary School with 16 members of the team and coaching staff as they assisted the school in their annual Fall Festival Event. The team assisted in set up and take down and the games and petting zoo during the event. It was a privelege to help this school as the players enjoyed meeting families that are apart of Frazier Elementary School.
