FAQ: Burn files to CD
Introduction:To backup your home files to a CD at the end of the semester, bring a CD-R (compact disc, recordable) or a CD-RW (compact disc, rewriteable) to the Library computer lab located on the first floor of the Library. Locate the computer labeled "LIFS" and logon with your username and password. Then follow the instructions below to backup your files to your CD. Description:

| Double-click on My Documents to open the folder which contains your files. | ![]() |
| Now click Edit -> Select All in the menu to select all of your files. | ![]() |
| Now click File -> Send To -> CD-RW Drive (E:) to copy your files to the CD drive. | ![]() |
| After all the files have been successfully copied to the CD-ROM drive, a balloon will appear at the bottom-right hand corner of your screen telling you "You have files waiting to be written to the CD." Click on the balloon to bring up the CD drive in Explorer. | ![]() |
| Click "Write these files to CD" to begin the CD Writing Wizard. | ![]() |

When the CD Writing Wizard appears, type in a name for your CD in the "CD name:" text field and mark the "Close the wizard after the files have been written" checkbox. Click Next to begin the writing process. Note: Do not do anything else with the computer while the CD is being written. |

| After clicking Next the CD Writing Wizard progress bar will appear to display how much of process is left. | ![]() |
| Note: It is recommended to use a permanent marker to label your CD. | |

After the CD has been written it will eject automatically. Don't forget to logout when you are finished. |
