2007 Endowment Fund- the beginning to end
There is a buzz on campus, and it has to do with seniors and pigs. Before your mind wanders in thought of how seniors and pigs can be related, let us explain exactly what's happening.
The Alumni Office has taken charge of educating students about giving when they become alumni. With careful planning and a hefty spoonful of creativity the 2007 Senior Endowment Fund Campaign was born.
The Alumni Office wants students to warm up to the idea of giving when they become alumni. Approximately 7% of alumni give to the school annually and 95% of students receive some form of financial assistance. Students must be reached with this information and they must understand that the scholarships they receive are provided by generous individuals.
A seed of philanthropy must be planted in students.
The best time to educate and instill a spirit of philanthropy in alumni is while they are still students at their school. The students at Bryan College not only see the need for donations, but experience the need.
The idea of a senior class endowment fund was born.
The alumni office was faced with the issue of students being so poor they wouldn't be able to financially contribute to their own endowment fund, and that is how the phrase "When Pigs Fly" was put in place as the slogan for the fund.
How the pig WILL fly.
There are three major steps in this campaign. The first was the introductory meeting. During a senior class chapel Warren Cole, coordinator of alumni relations, talked to the seniors about the idea of endowment: what it is, how much Bryan has endowed, and why endowment and giving toward Bryan College is important.
This little piggy.
At the end of the talk, senior piggy banks were given to the students; they were encouraged to fill the piggy banks with their loose change and turn them into the alumni office. When they turn in a full piggy bank they will receive a free piggy T-shirt.

The big pig.
To make seniors and others more aware of the campaign, there was a greased pig contest in March. Seniors were given the opportunity to catch a greased pig. Picture of this event can be seen below.

Innovative. Bold. Alumni.
