New faculty, staff introduced Five professors, a new director of advancement and a new resident director have joined the Bryan family as the 2007-08 school year is about to begin.
Academic Vice President Dr. Cal White announced the new faculty members. Mr. Chris Clark will fill a vacancy in the Communication Studies department, specializing in film production. Dr. Scott Jones will teach in a new position in the Christian Ministry major. Mrs. Kim Keck, a vocal music instructor, will take a new position in the Music department. Dr. Don Knudsen will fill a new position in the Business department. And Mr. Scott Smith will teach language and linguistics, filling a vacancy in that area. "Our growing enrollment and the interest of students in different programs have compelled us to hire additional faculty," Dr. White said. "I am excited about the strengths and experiences these new faculty bring with them, and I believe they will make a wonderful contribution to our students and the Bryan community." Steve Keck, husband of the new music professor, has been named director of advancement, with the responsibility of leading the development, alumni and public information offices. Mr. Keck built a career in banking and mortgage lending before moving into the development area several years ago. Kristina Anderson has joined the Student Life staff as resident director for Arnold Residence Hall. She recently earned her Master’s degree in higher education with an emphasis in student affairs administration from Geneva College. Please remember to pray for these new faculty and staff members, and pray that God will bless the college during the 2007-08 school year. Campus improvements to greet students A new front for Summers Gymnasium, not to mention a new south side, as well as improvements to residence halls will greet students when they move on campus later this month. ![]() Vice President for Operations Tim Hostetler said workers are nearing completion of renovations to the upper levels of Summers Gymnasium, but engineering problems delayed progress on the new lower-level wing of the building. Those problems have been resolved and work is well underway, he said. The finished gym will resemble other buildings with its new façade, and will provide new dressing rooms, coaches’ offices and exercise facilities. Several floors in Long and Huston residence halls have been converted to house three students instead of two, in anticipation of another increase in enrollment. Michael Sapienza, director of admissions and financial aid, said indications are that the college can expect between 280 and 290 new students as the year begins, up from the 253 recorded in 2006. “We are encouraged with the response from prospective students and their parents,” Mr. Sapienza said. “It’s exciting to see young men and women enrolling at Bryan College who are serious about obtaining a quality education based on a biblical worldview.” New students are to report to campus on Aug. 25, and returning students on Aug. 27. Registration is set for Aug. 28, with Convocation and classes beginning on Aug. 29. Rhea teachers use Bryan for in-service Some 300 Rhea County teachers and school administrators held their annual start-of-the-year workshops on the Bryan campus this week, the first time in memory the local school system has taken advantage of the college’s facilities in this way. Dr. Steve DeGeorge, head of Bryan’s education department, said the Rhea County educators have used Rudd Auditorium and as many as 15 other rooms for their general and break-out sessions. “They have been very complimentary about the college and the technology available in the classrooms and have even commented on the condition of the grounds,” he said. “Our staff has been super-accommodating, going the second and third mile to help with this program. I feel like this has been a big success.” Dr. DeGeorge noted that while about a third of the county’s teachers are Bryan alumni, “there are a lot of teachers in the school system that have never been on campus. I’m glad we could get them up here to see what is really the capstone of the educational opportunities in the county.” Bryan College: Lions' Pride Whether you’re a Bryan College alum, a current student or simply a proud supporter and fan, you’ll want to own this limited-edition, art-quality coffee-table book.
