Bryan Improves to 9-1 with Win Over Spalding

Bryan 8, Spalding 2

The Lions defended their home turf well today as they defeated Spalding University 8-2 in the afternoon heat up on Bryan hill.  It didn't take long for the Lions to press the Spalding side into allowing a goal as Diego Taucano struck early in the first half to open the scoring.  The Lions continued to apply pressure, making it difficult for Spalding to get out of their own half of the field.  Scott Davidson added another goal minutes later as the Lions pushed forward consistently.  Substitute Reggie Parks added a third goal assisted by Ricky Angel, and the rout was on the way.  With three minutes remaining in the first half, Gabe Fisher finished off a nice entry pass by Ricky Angel to end the half.

The second half looked similar to the first with Bryan pressuring Spalding in their own end constantly.  Bryan showed its depth as a complete second team entered the field, gaining valuable experience as they played well in front of the home fans.  Bryan's depth took a toll on Spalding as the heat was a factor .  Andres Garcia struck early out of the midfield for the first goal of the second half.  One minute later,  Manoel Silva scored unassisted.  With the third goal in as many minutes, Diego Taucano scored, assisted by Reggie Parks, for his second goal of the game.  Not to be outdone, Parks scored his second of the match with one minute remaining, pushing the final score to 8-2 in favor of the Lions.

The Lions are now 9-1 (2-0 AAC) on the season, and are ranked #2 in the conference.  They are also ranked #3 in NAIA Region 12 and #4 in the NCCAA National Rankings.  The Lions host conference rival Union College on Wednesday, September 26.
