Bryan Defeats Montreat 2-0

October 4th, 2007

Bryan 2, Montreat 0

The Bryan Lions Classic team defeated Montreat College 2-0 at home today in a conference match-up.  The Lions have not lost in five matches and push their record to 4-1-1 with the victory.
Once again, the Lion's depth played a big role in their success as they were able to put Montreat under tremendous amounts of pressure throughout the game.  The pressure was made more effective by the quality play that the substitutes brought in off of the bench.  The first goal was a direct result of the high pressure as Montreat scored an own goal off a deflected header in the box.  Midway through the second half, freshman Zach Scalf scored a nice goal to give the Lions further breathing room.  The Lions continued to provide quality chances and could have scored more.  Mark Welch stepped up and hit a beautiful penalty kick which caught the inside of the post and ricocheted across the goal line which nearly made it 3-0 with four minutes remaining.
All in all, another solid victory for the Lions who stand 4-1-1 and will host Crown College Friday, October 5th, at 7:30 pm.
