Mike Wood, a 1978 Bryan graduate, has been named Chattanooga-area Boy's Coach of the Year for cross country by the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

Mr. Wood is varsity track and cross country coach and sports camp director at The McCallie School in Chattanooga, where he won the Coach of the Year honor for track in 2003. He has been at McCallie for 16 years.

The newspaper's citation for the honor said that Coach Wood developed a special work routine to assist his top runner's recovery from illness. That athlete finished sixth in the state meet; another runner was 12th in the state, and the team finished second, the third time as runners-up.

At Bryan, Coach Wood ran cross country and was a member of the 1975 National Christian College Athletic Association's national championship squad.
