What Do I Do With All This SPAM?
What can I do about all this SPAM?
(Note: these instructions are for Microsoft Outlook, not Outlook Web Access)
A) You can have Outlook automatically move messages that the Bryan email filter considers SPAM to the Junk Email folder, yet still be able to access those messages if you need to. To do this you must create a rule to move all email that is flagged in the header as "X-Spam-Status: Yes" (case sensitive, don't include the quotes) to your Junk Email folder. Our filter system adds that unique message to the header of all the email that it considers spam.
- Open Outlook
- Go to Tools>Rules and Alerts
- Click the button "New Rule"
- Choose the option "Start from a Blank Rule" and make sure "Check messages when they arrive" is selected. Click Next
- In the "Step 1: Select condition(s)" window, mark the "with specific words in the message header" check box
- In the "Step 2: Edit the rule description (click an underlined value)" window, click on the underlined "specific words" and add "X-Spam-Status: Yes" (case sensitive, don't include the quotes) to the "search list" window. (Enter the text, click "Add" then Click "Ok.")
- Click "Next" then mark the "move it to the specified folder" check box in the "Step 1: Select action(s)" window.
- in the "Step 2: Edit the rule description (click an underlined value)" click the underlined word "specified"
- Choose the "Junk Email" folder and click "OK"
- Click "Finish"
- It is recommended that you move the newly created rule to the bottom of your rules list (by clicking on the up or down arrows in the "Rules and Alerts") window so that it will not interfere with other rules that you would rather have applied first.
- At this point you may choose to "Run Rules Now" and/or close the "Rules and Alerts" window. The rule is now active.
