DAYTON, TN– Bryan College’s Katie Davis recently joined the elite 1000-point club in only her third season. The 5’10” junior guard now has 1,006 points for her career after reaching the prestigious milestone during Bryan’s February 19 loss to Union College. Davis scored 159 points while at NCAA Division II Mars Hill (NC) College during her freshman year, and then scored 377 and 470 points each of the last two years, respectively, at Bryan College. Currently, she ranks 5th in the Appalachian Athletic Conference for points (16.8 ppg), rebounds (7.6 rpg), and assists (4.0 apg). She ranks 1st in the AAC and 8th in the nation for NAIA-II in “Made Three-Point Shots per Game” with 3.0. “I am extremely happy for Katie,” said head coach Jamy Bechler. “Katie is such a team player and so unassuming that neither she, nor myself, even realized that she was approaching this milestone. This is a great accomplishment and a testament to her hard work and talent. I coached against her when she was at Mars Hill and I was at Newberry. She was a talented freshman then and it has been nice to see how well she has progressed into an all-around player.” Last season, Davis was named to the AAC’s All-Conference Third Team. Additionally, in January of this year, she earned “Player of the Week” honors for the AAC and the National Christian College Athletic Association. Davis sat out the last regular season game of the year Saturday at King because of a foot injury. If healthy, by Thursday, she will have the opportunity to add to her total when the Lady Lions play Milligan in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament.
