Dayton, TN– The National Christian College Athletic Association announced today that Bryan College’s Katie Davis (Harriman, TN/Oliver Springs HS) has been named First Team All-American. The junior previously earned Co-MidEast Region Player of the Year honors with Karissa Walters of Oakland City (IN) University. Davis averaged 17.3 ppg, 7.8 rpg, and 4.0 apg this season for the Lions. The 5’10” guard also made 3.07 “three-point baskets” per game, which led the nation. Earlier this season, Davis was named “National Scholar-Athlete of the Week” by the NCCAA. She also scored her 1,000th point and now has 1037 points in her three seasons of college basketball. “Katie is one of the best players I have ever coached,” said Lady Lions head coach Jamy Bechler. “She obviously is very talented but she is also a hard worker in practice and in games. I always know what I am getting with Katie. She is a warrior on the court. She is our leading scorer, rebounder, and passer. She does it all. Being named an All-American is a tremendous honor, and she is very deserving. It is nice to see a player get rewarded when they work hard and have a good attitude.”
Davis was also previously named to the Appalachian Athletic Conference’s First Team for her performance this season. Natalie Young of Bethel (IN) College and Jenna Matson of MidAmerica Nazarene (KS) were name NCCAA Co-Players of the Year. Kirk Martin, head coach at Cedarville (OH) University was named the Coach of the Year after leading his Yellow Jackets to the NCCAA Division I national championship. The NCCAA is an association of Christ-centered collegiate institutions whose mission is to use athletic competition as an integral component of education, evangelism and encouragement.
