Pre-Medical or Pre-Professional Biology Majors
Bryan College has prepared students to enter the health professions for many years. About one-half of them have chosen to apply to M.D. programs, but others have opted for programs in Osteopathic Medicine or Physicians Assistant. Some have chosen professions in Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Chiropractics, Optometry, Dentistry, and research.
We also offer, with Vanderbilt University, a "3 + 2 Bridge Program" that leads to an M.S. in Nursing. After the fourth year (the first year at Vanderbilt), students transfer 30 credit hours to Bryan and receive a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Bryan College. At the completion of the fifth year, students receive a Master's Degree in Nursing from Vanderbilt University in one of twelve nursing specialties.
Pre-professional students typically major in Biology and take a broad spectrum of courses in biology, mathematics, chemistry, and physics. Other students, however, major in Bible, Liberal Arts, or other areas; they also take key science courses that prepare them to pass entrance exams (MCAT, DAT, GRE and others) for their respective fields of interest. Such students will be assigned two advisors, one in their major and one from the sciences. All students will receive guidance throughout their program.
Our students often report high satisfaction with their preparation received from Bryan college and often return and visit with us and keep in touch. This is a real blessing of a small college, the personal touch.
