Swanson Scores 17 In Losing Effort For The Lady Lions As They Fall To TWC 73-62

January 12, 2008

Dayton, TN--  The Bryan College Lady Lions have struggled as of late, losing 7 in a row and struggling to find consistency on the floor. Some of the trouble has been out of the team’s hands, with injuries, academic troubles affecting personnel, the Lady Lions have had to experiment with multiple lineups and find new sources of scoring over the last few weeks.
Hoping to right the ship, the Lady Lions stepped onto the court with the Lady Bulldogs of Tennessee Wesleyan College on Saturday afternoon looking to halt their skid and get back on track as they approach the postseason. The Lady Lions record sat at 4-11 and 2-3 in AAC play, while TN Wesleyan was also in the middle of the pack at 4-11 (2-3 AAC). Bryan had defeated TWC 4 times over the last two seasons and the Bulldogs came into Summers Gymnasium looking for revenge.
Lions Head Coach Jamy Bechler got strong play from Sophomore Forward Courtney Swanson who hit a couple of big 3’s to keep the Lions close in the first half. The teams traded buckets over the course of the first half, with both shooting right around 41% before the half. As the two teams headed to the locker room, the Lions trailed by 8, 38-30.
The Second half of play was even closer than the first, as Bryan out-rebounded the Lady Bulldogs by 10 boards, placing them in position to claw back. Bryan was outscored in the second frame 35-32, but The Lady Lions would make a small run to close the gap towards the end of the half. In the end the early deficit was too much to overcome, and the Lady Bulldogs escaped Summers Gymnasium with a hard fought victory. Final Score: TWC 73, Bryan 62.
Katie Davis again played well for the Lady Lions, pouring in 13 points, grabbing 5 rebounds, and dishing out 6 assists on the night. Becca Morris added 10 points and 5 rebounds in the loss as well. The Lady Lions fall to 4-12(2-4 AAC) and will look to regroup before heading to Lookout Mountain, GA to take on the Covenant College Lady Scots. Tip-Off is set for 5:30 PM.
