Debate team finishes second in state meet

     Bryan’s debate team took second place in the sweepstakes competition during the recent All Tennessee debate tournament at Tennessee State University, amassing the second-highest point total in the competition.Bryan's debate team
     In winning that honor, the Bryan team of Paul Shanks and Jandi Heagen advanced to the semi-final round of the novice division. In the varsity division Tori Stewart and Lawrence LaPlue finished as runner-up and Eric McEachron and Brittany McGehee reached the quarter-final round.
     The team also received points for Tori Stewart’s first-place ranking in the individual speaking evaluation, and Brittany McGehee’s fourth-place ranking.
     Earlier in February the debate team participated in the Little Brown Jug Tournament at East Tennessee State University, where Lawrence was presented the first-place speaker award.
     Lawrence said the team plans to enter two more tournaments this spring, the National Christian College Invitational at Belmont University and a tournament at Northeastern State Technical Community College in Blountville, Tenn.
