Lions Fall On The Road At Virginia Intermont 95-74
February 6, 2008
Bristol, VA—The Bryan Lions traveled to Bristol, Virginia on Wednesday night to take on Virginia Intermont College, hoping to avenge an early season loss to the Cobras. The Lions have been struggling as of late, but a couple of good practices earlier this week gave them confidence heading into the game Wednesday. Lions junior, Cody Christopher had been playing well, leading the Lions in scoring in their last three contests, and needed to continue his production if the Lions were to come away with a victory.
Christopher did have another big night, scoring a game-high 22 points and grabbing 8 rebounds, but his effort was the only bright spot in a lopsided 95-74 loss in which the Lions led at the half. Both teams shot around 45% from the floor, and both made 10 shots from beyond the arc, but the Cobras went 21-of-24 from the free throw line compared to the Lions who shot 6-of-14 from the charity stripe. The Lions led by 9 at the break, before allowing the Cobras to outscore them 64-34 in the second half en route to the 21 point victory.
Lions’ Head Coach Don Rekoske was not pleased with his team’s effort, but had no comment after the game. He did emphasize that the team will continue to work hard and prepare for the conference tournament. The Lions will need to regroup before Saturday when then Milligan College Buffaloes come to Summers Gymnasium looking to complete the season sweep of the Lions. Milligan won the previous matchup on January 9th, 74-72.
