Lions Drop Game 1 Of Double-Header with Southern Poly

Marietta, GA—The Lions traveled to Marietta, GA on Tuesday morning for a double-header with the Southern Polytechnic Hornets in a non-conference tilt. The Hornets entered the game ranked 22nd in the nation and held a record of 8-1. Bryan entered the contest at 7-3 after a three game sweep of Indiana Wesleyan over the weekend.
The Lions struck first in game 1, pushing a run across in the first inning when Michael Kent scored on a single by Will Newman. The Hornets responded with 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the first to take the lead back. On the mound for the Lions was junior lefthander Daniel Bosarge who entered the contest with a record of 0-0 after making 5 appearances in relief for the Lions. Bosarge struggled on Tuesday, surrendering 8 runs on 8 hits in just 3 2/3 innings.
The Hornets would tack on another run in the 3rd inning before the Lions would tally 2 runs of their own in the top of the 4th. Southern Poly answered right back with 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the 4th, chasing Bosarge who gave way to Joey Mohler. Mohler ended the threat allowing only one more run to score. Bryan added two more runs in the 5th inning, but would go down quietly over the next two innings, while the Hornets added one more run off Bryan reliever Adam Polston to seal the victory 10-5.
Other Notables: Brad Starnes was 2-for-4, while Matt Hicks(2), Will Newman and Jon Brown each tallied RBI’s for the Lions.
