Missions Team Returns from the Dominican Republic
May 30, 2008
The Lady Lions' basketbal team, through SCORE International, traveled to the Dominican Republic May 12-19. The mission team consisted of Coach Jamy Bechler and his wife Tabitha; Lady Lions Katie Davis, Becca Morris, Hillary Tipton, Alicia Schulze, Anna Haley, Wendy Vork, Lauren Copeland and Jessica Southern; Lee University player Fallon Lee; former Lady Lion Heather Windom (summer intern with SCORE) and Amanda Dehnke (fulltime SCORE staff person).
The mission team's ministry opportunities included visits to sugar cane villages and schools where they played with the children, shared their testimonies through interpreters, and led the children in singing songs. Among the orphanages they visited was one for disabled children and another for children of prostitutes. The team members had many opportunities to show Christ's love to many children in a variety of settings.
The Lady Lions had several opportunities to compete against professional teams in San Carlos and Santo Domingo. Following the games, they were able to share their testimonies with the players as well as the many spectators who came out to enjoy the games.
