MT. JULIET, TN (5/21/08) — On the day in which she’d celebrate her 18th birthday, Mt. Juliet’s Rebecca Sharpe signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Bryan College.
In the four years that the 5’4” point guard played for Coach Chris Fryer’s squad at Mt. Juliet High School, the 3A power amassed an incredible 118-17 record, including the State Championship in 2005. Three of those years, she spent as the starting point guard. She saw significant time as a freshman on the 37-1 Championship team.
Sharpe averaged 9.6 ppg and 5.4 apg this year. Her senior season ended against eventual 3A state champion and rival Wilson Central in the state playoffs. She also had 122 steals and 103 rebounds.
“We are so excited to have Becca join our program”, said Bryan Coach Jamy Bechler. “She is just what we were looking for in a point guard to lead our program. She is a great passer. She has good decision making skills. She comes from a great program. She is a winner. Her character is strong and she does very well in the classroom. We think that she’ll be a good college player for many years to come.”
Sharpe decided on Bryan College after considering NAIA-I powers Union University, Lambuth University and Trevecca Nazarene University. She has a 4.0 grade point average in high school and plans on studying mathematics in college.
“One of the best passers to play at MJHS”, said Fryer. “She knows the game and understands how to set others up for easy baskets. Becca has a very high basketball IQ.”
