Game Recaps
August 29, 2008Bryan 2, Mt. Vernon Nazarene 1
The Lions opened their season tonight against the Cougars of Mt. Vernon Nazarene. It was a very exciting which made it a great season opener for the fans. The Lions came out strong and looked great in the first half scoring 2 goals. The first came from Ryon Simon as he was battling right in front of the Cougars goal until the ball found the back of the net. The second goal came from Raphael Correa off an assist by Lyle Gifford. "We played hard and looked really good at times in the first half, but we are not in game shape yet and it showed in the second half," was coach Zensen's comment about the game. This was true as the Lions did not seem to have the same energy in the second half and were plagued by cramps as well. The cougars scored their one and only goal about midway through the second half on a penalty kick, and the Lions played with their backs against the wall the rest of the match. However, the defense held strong, lead by Nate McCown, and were able to hold on to the one goal lead. The challenging win was a great way to start off the season for this young talented team.
