POSITION OPENING
Opportunity: Full-time faculty / tenure track – Modern Foreign Language (Spanish)
Bryan College: Located in Dayton, Tennessee (30 minutes north of metro Chattanooga), Bryan is a Christ-centered liberal arts college which is evangelical, non-denominational, and regionally accredited. The College’s purpose is to educate students to become servants of Christ to make a difference in today’s world. Faculty are selected on the basis of teaching ability and experience, educational credentials, compatibility with the mission and goals of the College, and an evident, personal commitment to its motto ~ “Christ above all.” Bryan is an equal opportunity employer that seeks a diverse work environment; women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
Position: Initial rank and salary are dependent upon credentials and previous experience. Strong preference will be given to candidates with an earned doctorate in the discipline, training / experience in college-level teaching, and native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and English. The ideal candidate will be a generalist, able to teach a variety of Spanish courses at all levels of undergraduate study, including grammar, conversation, composition, and culture (both Latin American and Peninsular). Ability and appropriate credentials to teach an additional modern foreign language and/or a background in linguistics (theoretical or applied) would be highly desirable. Interest/ability in developing/coordinating study abroad and/or domestic and international practicum experiences related to language learning is a plus.
Full-time faculty teach a 12-hour load each semester, serve on committees as assigned, advise students within the department, and participate in the spiritual and social life of the College.
Application: A letter of interest and curriculum vitae should be sent electronically to the email address given below. This must include a personal testimony of faith in Christ, the Bryan application for faculty appointment (see: www.bryan.edu/4769.html), and a philosophy of education and classroom teaching that summarizes how the candidate incorporates a Christian worldview as the foundation for the engagement of faith, learning, and living. The College will then selectively contact candidates as needed to request additional information (transcripts, references, etc.). Materials will be reviewed as they are received, and the projected start date is August 1, 2009.
