SIFE Team to compete for regional title
March 20, 2009
The Bryan College Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) team will compete at the Atlanta SIFE USA Regional Competition on March 30. The event is one of 16 SIFE USA Regional Competitions being held across the United States in March and April.
SIFE President Charles Plush said, “We are excited and look forward to the opportunity of presenting the six projects we have completed this past school year. The team feels like we have a good shot at being selected a regional champion.”
Bryan College has one of more than 500 SIFE programs in the United States. Participating students use business concepts to develop community outreach projects that improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need.
During this academic year, Bryan's SIFE team organized six projects in the Dayton community, including filing over 40 income taxes through the IRS VITA program.
SIFE team member Stephen Drake said, “As a team, we helped members of our local community e-file their taxes at no cost to them, and, in turn, we were able to alleviate the stress and burden of tax season for each individual.”
If the team wins at the Atlanta competition, they will advance to the 2009 SIFE USA National Exposition in Philadelphia, Pa., May 10-12.
