Bryan Track & Field runs well at Virginia Intermont

February 26, 2007

Bristol, VA - The Virginia Intermont College and King College Last Chance Qualifier was held Friday, February 23, at Virginia High School with four AAC members including Virginia Intermont, King, Milligan and Bryan College.  Bryan came away with some solid performances from its young roster.

Freshmen Josh Bradley started off the day with an 8th place finish in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:23.00, a time that provisionally qualifies him for the national meet in two weeks.  Zach Mobley, competing unattached, finished 6th in 1:22.50.  Freshmen Daniel Goetz was third in the 1500 Meter Run with a time of 4:01.10.  Forty-Five minutes later, Goetz followed that up with a 4th place finish in the 3000 Meter Run, in 9:04.60.  Freshmen Zach Buffington (Ooltewah, TN) was 6th in the 5k Run in 16:22.70.  Bradley and Mobley were 2nd and 4th in the 800 Meter Run with times of 1:56.90 and 2:00.10.

"Our men did great job today.  I'm always happy when I see them in a race competing for a chance to win.  Bradley and Mobley did what I expected in the 600.  I feel Josh could have taken the 800 meter victory, but wasn't aggressive enough early.  It was a good experience and he learned a lot, which should help him at nationals in two weeks.  Goetz looked real controlled in the 1500 and the 3k was more of a workout for him.  Buffington was running real well for two miles, but slowed in the last 1200 meters.  I know he is disappointed, but he has come a long way over the last 6 months and outdoor he'll see the times drop." Said Coach Rodney Stoker

Daniel Goetz and Josh Bradley will compete next at the NAIA Indoor National Championship held in Johnson City, TN on March 9th and 10th.
