Bryan Signs Franklin High Star
April 24, 2007The Bryan College Men's Basketball coaching staff is pleased to announce that Franklin High School's, Derek Batt, has decided to continue his playing career at Bryan next season. Derek made the All-District Team in 2007. 
He was also on the All-District Tournament Team in 2006 and 2007. This past season, Derek was also announced as a
member of the All-Region and All-Region Tournament Teams as well. These accomplishments were not lost on his team as he was voted Team MVP this year and won the Rebel Award the last 2 seasons. His high school coach, Jay Johnson said, "Two years in a row Derek won the Rebel Award. This speaks volumes of him as a player and person. I am excited that Derek has this opportunity and know that he will be a good college player." Bryan Head Coach, Don Rekoske stated, "We are very excited to sign a player like Derek. He has a great work ethic, is athletic, and comes from a great program at Franklin. We feel that he is very solid in his fundamentals and will have the opportunity to contribute as a freshman."
Derek averaged 13.8 points and 6.4 rebounds a game. He shot 58.7% from the floor, including 47.6% from 3-point land. Derek also averaged 2.1 assists and 2.1 steals a game as well. Derek helped lead the Franklin Rebels to a 30-6 record and a spot in the Region Tournament. His high school coach was Jay Johnson.
