Women's Basketball 2007-08 Schedule Released
August 10, 2007 (8/8/07) Dayton, TN--Coming off its fourth straight NAIA national tournament appearance and looking to defend its AAC championship, Head Coach Jamy Bechler has announced the Bryan College women's basketball schedule for the 2007-2008 season.
In addition to the usual AAC rivalries and powerhouses, the Lady Lions will have be one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the nation for NAIA Division II. The Appalachian Athletic Conference is expected to have the most competitive women's basketball that is has had in recent years. Most of the top teams return the core of their lineups.
"Our schedule for this season will be extremely competitive," said Bechler. "We have beefed up the schedule to help prepare us for the conference and the national tournament. We feel that we have one of the premier small college programs in the nation and we want to play a schedule that reflects that. The AAC will also be extremely challenging with six or seven teams having a chance to contend for the AAC championship."
The Lady Lions will face off against four teams that finished last season ranked in the NAIA Division I Top-35: Lee University (4th), Freed-Hardeman (15th), Lindsey Wilson (30th), and Martin Methodist (35th) twice. Additionally, Georgetown (KY) College started last season ranked in the Top-20. Bryan College will also play against many of the teams that it competes with at the National Tournament. They play Cedarville, which finished the season ranked 5th and Berea, ranked 31st, in the NAIA-II poll.
At Christmas time, the Lady Lions will travel to play in the prestigious Warner Southern University Tournament in Lake Wales, FL. Among the teams playing in the tournament is the 2006-07 NAIA-II undefeated National Champions, Indiana Wesleyan University.
