'Steel Magnolias' to blossom Jan. 25-30
January 13, 2010
Bryan’s Hilltop Players will offer audience favorite “Steel Magnolias” in a dessert theatre production presented in Rudd Auditorium's Brock Hall Jan. 25-30.
Set in a small-town beauty shop in Louisiana on the wedding day of one of its favorite patrons, “Steel Magnolias” explores the sense of community formed by a small group of patrons. Their get-togethers at the beauty shop let them catch up on men, marriage and the latest hair styles in their community.
Director Bernie Belisle said this “wonderful show gives female actors the opportunity to grow and develop. Plus, it’s a great story.”
The cast includes Molly Gehring from Marietta, Ga., as Truvy, the beauty shop owner; Elizabeth Yates from Chattanooga, Tenn., as Annelle; Emily Hendrix from Dayton, Tenn., as Shelby, the bride-to-be; Alexis Landry from Appomattox, Va., as M’Lynn; Ali Ibsen from Roswell, Ga., as Clairee; and Lauren Twombly from Somerset, N.J., as Ouiser. Jason Hundley is assistant director, and Lindsey Wolfe is production manager
Mr. Belisle said the beauty shop equipment has been loaned to the college for the production by Salon 249 in Dayton.
Performances Monday through Saturday will include dessert. Friday’s performance will be a dinner theatre presentation. Reservations are required for Friday’s performance.
