Seniors, faculty, staff honored
April 28, 2010

Twenty-two seniors were recognized for outstanding achievement during Bryan’s annual Honors Day chapel April 28.

Those honored included:

Claflin

Becky Claflin, a senior from Irvine, Calif., received the F. R. Rogers Senior Award in Bible, presented to a senior who has had at least four semesters of Bible at Bryan College, who excels as a Bible student, and who manifests true Christian consecration.

Beasley

Caleb Beasley, a senior from Springfield, Tenn., received the Melvin M. Seguine Award, given to a male student who plans to continue in graduate studies that will culminate in missionary or pastoral service for the Lord.

Davila

Eduardo Davila, a senior from Miami, Fla., received the John C. Anderson Award, given to a Biblical Studies major who has excelled academically throughout his or her Bible program.

Payne

Bailey Payne, a senior from Pikeville, Tenn., received the Christian Ministry Award to Outstanding Senior, for her achievement in that major.

Stewart

Tori Stewart, a senior from Cleveland, Tenn., received the Senior Communication Studies Scholarship Award, in recognition of her achievement in that major.

McLean

Allison McLean, a senior from Powder Springs, Ga., received the Triangle Senior Award in recognition of ser contribution to the college newspaper staff.

McKennett

Kimberly McKennett, a senior from Anchorage, Alaska, received the F. R. Rogers Senior Award in Music, recognizing her achievement in the major.

Gehring

Molly Gehring, a senior from Hudson, Wisc., received the MTNA Student Achievement Recognition Award for her accomplishment as a music major. She also received the Judson A. Rudd Testimony and Influence Award, presented to the upperclassman having an outstanding Christian testimony and exerting the best Christian influence on incoming students. The selection is made by the freshman class.

Sunday

Timothy Sunday, a senior from Seymour, Tenn., received the Chorale Member of the Year award in recognition of his contribution to that musical ensemble.

Underwood

Allison Underwood, a senior from Pikeville, Tenn., received the Chamber Singer of the Year award in recognition of her contribution to that musical ensemble.

Wolfe

Lindsey Wolfe, a senior from Indianapolis, Ind., received the Hilltop Players Senior Award in recognition of her contribution to the college theatre troupe.

Pool

Olivia Pool, a senior from Powell, Tenn., received the Outstanding Senior in Business award in recognition of her accomplishments in that major.

Shearer

Paul Shearer, a senior from Lebanon, Tenn., received the History Department Senior Award in recognition of his accomplishments in the major.

Hill

Kyla Hill, a senior from Cana, Va., received the Outstanding Senior in Politics and Government award in recognition of her achievement in the major.

Meznar

Philip Meznar, a senior from Boone, N.C., received the Senior Math Award, in recognition of his accomplishments in the major.

Huskey

Stephanie Huskey, a senior from Ooltewah, Tenn., received the Outstanding Senior in Computer Science Award, in recognition of her achievement in the major.

Manke

Zimmerman

Amanda Manke, a senior from Lake Worth, Fla., and Daniel Zimmerman, a senior from Grandview, Tenn., received the Mrs. E. B. Arnold Student Teacher Award, given to the student teachers who have shown the greatest promise in the teaching field. Amanda received her for elementary education and Daniel for secondary education.

Candland

Carolyn Candland, a December 2009 graduate, received the Psychology Award for outstanding achievement in the major

Smith

Amber Smith, a senior from Pompano Beach, Fla., received the Outstanding Senior in Exercise and Health Science award for her accomplishments in the major.

Jones

Daniel Zimmerman, a senior from Grandview, Tenn., received the William Jennings Bryan Philological Award in recognition of his accomplishments in the English major. He and Millie Jones, a senior from Abbeville, S.C., also received the Richard M. Cornelius Award of Excellence, presented to students whose senior thesis best exemplifies the standards of excellence upheld by Dr. Cornelius. 

Slikker

Andrew Slikker, a senior from Dayton, Tenn., received the Willard L. Henning Biology Award in recognition of his accomplishment in the major.





Also, faculty and staff members were recognized, including:

Dr. Ray Legg, professor of English, received the Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award.

Dr. Mel Wilhoit, professor of music, received the first Scholar of the Year Award, presented in recognition of a faculty members outstanding scholarship, publications and contribution to the college community. He also was honored for 30 years of service.

Dr. Bill Ketchersid and Dr. Martin Hartzell were honored for 35 years of service to the college. Dr. Ketchersid and Dr. Jack Traylor were recognized on their retirement at the end of the academic year.

Myra Goza received the Staff Member of the Year Award.
 

Dr. Brian Hill, left, was recognized for 15 years of service. Honored for 10 years of service were, from left, Dr. Todd Wood, Stephanie Mace, Tami Tullberg, Tracey Bridwell, Jody Cheon, Tim Shetter, Earl Reed and Dr. Dana Wilson. Not pictured is Dr. Paul Boling, honored for 15 years of service.

Dr. Sandy Zensen was honored for 20 years of service.
