AGS Outreach Librarian

Position Summary

Librarian primarily responsible for the library’s outreach services, particularly to degree completion, graduate, online and dual enrollment students. This is a 12 month full time exempt administrative faculty position requiring up to 2 evening/weekend times per week and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, performs, and assesses reference and instructional services to AGS (distance) students & faculty
  • Represents the library on the AGS Curriculum Committee
  • Performs reference services at least two nights per week in the library
  • Coordinates library web services
  • Creates and updates online tutorials
  • Coordinates library marketing efforts
  • Manages/Edits library digital signage and the library website
  • Edits library newsletter
  • Coordinates some special programs, events, and displays
  • Occasionally fills in at the information desk

Supervisory Responsibilities

Occasionally directly supervises Library Student Assistants when on duty in the evening, carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training, planning, assigning, and directing work.

Qualification Requirements

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS)
  • Related experience not required but preferred

Language Skills:

Ability to

  • Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals and groups of people

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to

  • Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentage, and area
  • Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
  • Apply concepts such as fractions, percentage, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to

  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
