Jonathan (Jon) Slater
Resident Director, Woodlee-Ewing Hall ("Woodlee")
Spouse: Rebekah Slater
Child(ren): Elijah
Hometown: Eagle Grove, Iowa
Education: B.A. in Business Management/Finance from Northwestern College. (Orange City, IA) M.A. in Leadership for Evangelism and Mobilization from Columbia International University. (Columbia, SC)
Favorite candy: Any type of milk chocolate covered caramel candy. Snickers and Skittles come in at a respectable 2nd place.
Sports: I enjoy the American classics of baseball, basketball, and football. Soccer is also high on my list along with playing ping-pong, tennis, bocce ball, and ladder-golf. I'm a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Reds, U.S. Soccer team, and the Iowa State Cyclones!
Hobbies: I enjoy spending time with my wife and hanging out with friends. Also, playing games, watching sports or movies, and reading are very enjoyable.
Where I want to travel: I would love to take a long trip to Israel. It would provide such a great background and context for studying scripture. Would love to see all of Europe as well, preferably during a World Cup year.
A word that best describes me: Easygoing
Something I want to do before I die: One day I would like to grow my own vineyard.
My best residence life memory from college: The simple times of hanging out with the guys and sharing life with friends. Whether we had serious theological discussions, served on spring break missions trips, or just threw a ball around on the green, life was always better when surrounded by solid guys.
My passions: Jesus Christ and His Glory. I'm also passionate about my wife! I love sharing Christ with people and also serving people and encouraging them in the Lord.
A random fact about myself: I once worked for the Memphis Redbirds (triple A baseball). On Easter Sunday, I wore the Easter Bunny mascot suit and threw the ceremonial First Pitch.
Interesting fact about my building: Woodlee was designed by bridge builders.
What made me want to be an RD: I get to hang out and live life with college students in the context of Christian community with the goal of encouraging growth in their relationships with Christ. Living in such an intentional community allows for lots of fun and also lots of challenges that ultimately help us all mature in life and depend more on God every day. Being an RD also allows me to disciple and invest in young men so that when they leave college they will be Solid and Bold men of Christ.
What I love about Bryan: The people. Bryan is great because of the community of people who genuinely love and care about each other.
