A specialized offering from the Department of Economics and Business in the Marketing (B.A.) major. It is primarily intended to complement another major. It is a small, focused, major that will enhance other majors such as Politics and Government, Mathematics, Philosophy & Culture, Music, EHS, Psychology, History, Pre-Professional Programs, Theatre, and Communication Studies. As such, it will enable students to prepare for business related careers in non-business fields. An example would be museum administration for History majors with a Bachelor of Arts major in Marketing. This major also provides greater knowledge to enable the graduate to be more competent professionally, as would be the case, for example, with a combination of our Economics and Finance major with a Communication Studies major, because corporate communication uses marketing techniques and strategy.
The major in Marketing prepares the graduate to manage the various aspects of marketing, offering an effective product, presented at the right price, properly promoted to the relevant market, and distributed effectively. This option is built on developing the research tools necessary to properly focus the essential components of marketing through specific foundational and intermediate level coursework in marketing and quantitative methods.
