  • Students Alexandra Maldonado, Olivia Eanes, and Joanna Hill presented their papers at the 10th Annual Southeast Tennessee Regional Student History Conference at Lee University on April 8, 2014. (4.15.14)
  • Students Christy Corwin, Nathaniel Eastwood, Racie Miller, Lauren Hall, and Katherine Smith were inducted into the Sigma Beta Delta Honor Society on April 25. (4.29.13).
  • Bryan College's Enactus team wins regional championship for third year in a row and is headed to nationals in May. (4.29.13) 
  • The BCUR congratulates the following student presenters of the 2013 Undergraduate Research Conference: for Best Paper awards, Ryan Wolf received first place, Rebecca Bodine and Abigail Kouns tied for second place, and Jordan Kelly received third place. For Presentation awards, Ryan Wolf received first place, Kelly Findley received second place, and Alexandra Maldonado received third place (4.19.13). 
  • Dr. Roger Sanders and senior biology student Michael Bautista attended the 2012 annual meeting of the Tennessee Academy of Science held at Vanderbilt University, November 16.  Mr. Bautista presented their jointly authored paper "Analysis and Mapping of Soils in the Bryan College Arboretum," based on research he conducted last summer.   • Students Ashton Alexander, David Corwin, Sam Gilbertson, and Maddie Mondell recently traveled to Nashville to participate in the Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature. Read about their experience and successes here. (11.29.12)
  • Sophomore Ryan Wolf presented his paper "Janus Bifrons: Existential Angst, Cartesian Methodology, and Beneficent Doubt" at Covenant College's Undergraduate Philosophy Conference on November 10. (11.13.12)
  • Associate Professor of Spanish and BCUR Committee member Dr. Michele Pascucci recently had an article published in Vol. XXIII, Num. 1 of Literatura Mexicana (pp. 107-125), one of the top journals for Mexican literary studies, edited by the National Autonomous University of Mexico. "Hiroshigué versificado: dos poemas manuscritos de Tablada" presents and analyzes two previously unknown, unpublished poems by José Juan Tablada, discovered in manuscript form by Dr. Pascucci while she was doing archival research in Mexico City.   • Outreach Librarian Keri-Lynn Paulson attended the ACA 2012 Summit XV on October 11-13 in Knoxville. She brought student Rebecca Bodine, ACA STEM scholarship recipient, with her on the last day of the conference. (11.13.12)
  • Dr. Phillip Lestmann, Professor of Mathematics, took students Kelly Findley and Scott Rieckhoff to the second annual Bluegreen Undergraduate Mathematics Symposium at Centre College in Danville, KY on September 22. (11.13.12)
  • Dr. Travis Ricketts, Professor of History and Politics & Government, took students Allison Baker, Leila Barker, Jordanna Bollant, and Jessica Stockton to the Purpose and Prosperity Conference in Washington DC  June 6-9. (11.13.12)
  • Dr. Salvatore Musumeci, BCUR Executive Director, has been elected to a three-year term as a CUR Councilor in the Arts/Humanities division of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR), a national organization dedicated to promoting undergraduate research. (5.11.12)
  • Junior Becca Bodine is the winner of the Appalachian College Association 2012 STEM scholarship. (5.9.12)
  • Rising senior Biology major Lindsay Haynes was recently accepted to the UT Health Science Center (Memphis, TN) Summer Research Scholars Program, an 8-week summer internship in which she will be doing medical research with an investigator in one of their graduate programs.  (4.26.12)
  • Rising senior Psychology major Rachel Bailey will be interning at the Elisa Project in Dallas, TX, this summer. The Elisa Project is dedicated to raising awareness of eating disorders through education and outreach. Rachel will be writing for their newsletter and blog and helping organize their references and contacts. (4.26.12)
  • The BCUR congratulates the 2012 Undergraduate Research Conference Best Paper winners Will Jones (1st place), Allison Baker (2nd place), and Kristin DeVito (3rd Place). Annalise Williams received an honorable mention. (04.23.12)
  • Sophomore English/ Politics & Government major Ashton Alexander presented his paper “Signifyin’ Soul Sistas: Tracing the Figuration and Assessing the Literary Significance of Signifyin(g) in Toni Morrison’s Song of Solomon and Zora Neal Hurston’s Dust Tracks on a Road”  at UTC’s Fourth Annual Graduate and Undergraduate Student Conference on Literature, Composition and Rhetoric on March 23-24.   • Senior History major Shannon McGowan presented “Left in the Desert: An Analysis of German Involvement in North Africa During World War II” at the Southeast Tennessee Regional History Conference 2012 on Tuesday, April 3. (04.12.12)
  • The BCUR congratulates the 2012 Undergraduate Research Conference presentation winners Lydia Steele (1st place), Jessica Tameler  (2nd place), Grace Hughbanks and Alexandria Youngs (tied for 3rd place). Josiah Newport received an honorable mention. The Best Paper Award winners will be announced at Honors Chapel on April 23. (03.23.12)

  • On Monday, November 7, from 7-9 p.m., in the ASC Conference Room (1st floor Library), the BCUR will host an informational meeting for all students interested in finding out more about our services and about participating in the BCUR Spring 2012 Undergraduate Research Conference.  (11.01.11)
  • On October 5, 2011, the BCUR, in conjunction with the Bryan Institute, offered a forum entitled "Further Thoughts on Reading Genesis 1-2" where faculty members from several disciplines discussed the September 30-October 1 weekend conference. The purpose of the discussion was to recap some of the conference highlights and to provide an open forum where audience participants could ask questions of the faculty panel members that included Drs. Paul Boling, Daryl Charles, Brian Eisenback, Salvatore Musumeci, and Ken Turner. (10.07.11)
  • Keri-Lynn Paulson (BCUR Administrative Director) attended a webinar hosted by Bepress entitled "Supporting and Showcasing Undergraduate Research through the Institutional Repository" on September 28, 2011. (09.28.11)
  • Sophomore English major Will Jones' commentary "Death Cab: Existential Contentment: How a band progressed from nihilism to hope...but hope in what?" is published in the September 6, 2011, online edition of Christianity Today. (09.08.11)
  • Dr. Phillip Lestmann and two Bryan College Mathematics majors, Kelly Findley and Scott Rieckhoff, plan to attend the Bluegrass Undergraduate Mathematics Symposium at Centre College in Danville, KY, on Saturday, September 17. The purpose of the conference is to feature mathematical research by undergraduates. The all-day conference includes an invited address by Dr. Bill Johnston of Butler University and a panel discussion about graduate school. (09.08.11)
